Expert training for councils

The department is continuing to work closely with councils through training and information sessions, providing the most up to date information on legislation changes and capacity building.

Director of Information Technology and Innovation, Craig Vandermeer, said the training is vital as it sees the two levels of government working together for all Queenslanders.

“Councils have been extremely welcoming as we travel around the state to deliver information sessions and training” Mr Vandermeer said.

Training available to all councils includes Legislation Amendments Training, Tropical Workshops, ‘So You Want To Be A Councillor’ information sessions and Councillor Induction information sessions.

The Local Government Capacity Building Program held 29 workshops this year, involving more than 600 participants with feedback showing a 90 per cent satisfaction rate.

The department has also launched a Local Government Learning Centre for councillors and senior management.

The first online training package focuses on the new uniform Code of Conduct that sets out the standards of behaviour expected of councillors.

“We are here to help, knowing that ultimately, the best services and representation councils can deliver, will only benefit their communities” Mr Vandermeer said.
