Welcoming and inclusive communities

One hundred Australian towns and regional centres are facing significant population and economic decline. Migration and settlement are helping to increase local populations and add to the cultural vibrancy, revitalise local businesses and services and attract increased funding and investment.

Cultural diversity benefits everyone and strengthens our communities.

The department is currently working with Welcoming Cities to support interested regional councils in their efforts to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible for refugees and migrants.

Welcoming Cities supports councils and their communities in attracting, growing and retaining diversity.

The department’s work with Welcoming Cities may identify opportunities for collaboration with councils and the non-Government sector to welcome, include and support new arrivals in targeted locations.
