About the Commission

The Commission provides recommendations to the Minister responsible for local government in Queensland on the distribution of the Commonwealth Government’s Financial Assistance Grant to local governing bodies.

2021 Methodology review

The Commission has commenced a review of the methodology for the allocation of the Commonwealth Financial Assistance Grant (FA Grant).

Financial Assistance Grant

The Financial Assistance Grant is provided by the Commonwealth Government under the Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act 1995 (Commonwealth) and is distributed annually to 77 local governing bodies within Queensland.

Local government consultation

The Commission undertakes its individual council visits on a four-yearly rotation basis to coincide with the four-year term of elected local government members.
