Queensland local governments make a range of local laws. The Local Government Act 2009 and City of Brisbane Act 2010 empower local governments to make local laws suitable to their needs and resources to achieve the purpose and principles of local government.

Model local laws may be approved by the Minister for Local Government as suitable for incorporation by all local governments into their local laws.
